Body Lift Southlake
Patients who lose a large amount of weight by means of diet and exercise, weight loss surgery or childbirth often find that their skin does not shrink to fit their new profile. Due to a natural loss of skin elasticity, they are often left with excess sags and bags of skin, as well as persistent fat deposits in localized areas. For cases in which such skin folds and bags are pervasive in either the upper or lower body, Dr. Robert Bledsoe, a highly talented Grapevine plastic surgeon, offers a sophisticated cosmetic surgery procedure known as body lift.
Candidacy for Body Lift with Dr. Bledsoe
Body lift is typically performed on patients who have reached a steady weight and are successfully adhering to a healthy diet and exercise regimen. Patients who have undergone a gastric bypass or Lap Band procedure should wait one year prior to considering a body lift in order to ensure that they are healthy enough for surgery. Women who are considering having children should wait until after their pregnancy and delivery to undergo the procedure.
Body Lift Variations
Body lift is a major procedure that is generally performed in a hospital or outpatient surgical facility under general anesthesia. Depending on the extent of the surgery, the procedure can last four to eight hours and may require an overnight stay in the hospital.
Dr. Bledsoe performs several variations of body lift:
- Lower body lift is used to remove excess skin and fat from the stomach, buttocks, hips and lower back. When performing the procedure, Dr. Bledsoe makes incisions in the pubic hairline and extending along the inguinal creases in the front and just above the buttocks in the back. Excess skin and fat are removed, and the remaining skin is pulled tight and sutured into place. Lower body lift includes tummy tuck to tighten stomach muscles and may also be combined with thigh lift to remove skin from the inner leg area.
- Upper body lift is performed to remove sagging skin and fat from the upper back and chest. In both men and women, incisions are made across the “bra line”, rolls of fat are removed and skin is tightened. In women, the procedure typically includes breast lift, whereas in men it can include male breast reduction to treat gynecomastia (enlarged male breasts).
- Total body lift is a combination of lower and upper body lift.
Depending on the extent of surgery, Dr. Bledsoe may perform all parts of the body lift in one surgery or break the body lift into two or three separate surgeries. For example, when providing a total body lift, he may perform the lower body lift in one surgery and the upper body lift several months later. This approach minimizes the risks associated with surgery.
Recovery from Body Lift in Grapevine / Southlake
Following surgery, Southlake / Grapevine body lift patients will experience swelling and pain. Pain will be controlled initially with intravenous and intramuscular medications, then with oral medication. Patients will be provided with surgical drains and compression garments along with strict postoperative instructions for their use. Most of Dr. Bledsoe’s Grapevine / Southlake body lift patients can return to normal activities within four to six weeks and can resume exercising within six to eight weeks.
Dr. Bledsoe is pleased to have the opportunity to help patients undergo cosmetic transformation via body lift surgery. In addition to body lift, he offers other body sculpting procedures. He is a highly regarded Grapevine post-bariatric body sculpting surgeon and has helped many Southlake tummy tuck, thigh lift and arm lift patients achieve svelte, attractive body contours.
